Eugene’s “third floor sessions” is 15 tracks of bracingly honest and absolutely raw acoustic indie rock. The albums sound is sparse with off the cuff singing and playing. The singing tweaks syllabic emphasis in order to fit the songs meter and lyrics are conversational, almost free of artifice. There is a casual delivery and melancholy hidden in the heavy-handed playing and lonesomeness of the plain instruments. The warm, close sound all over this disc make it clear, a living room does not sound like a recording studio.
